Built Without Permission
Built Without Permission is the podcast for entrepreneurs who never waited for someone to hand them the blueprint.
Hosted by Matthew Mak, a former architect turned tow truck operator, landscaper, and equipment rental company owner, this show offers a raw, unfiltered look at what it actually takes to build multiple businesses from the ground up without a roadmap, a safety net, or anyone's approval.
Every episode dives into the real decisions, hard pivots, expensive lessons, and unconventional strategies that separate the people who talk about building something from the ones who actually do it. No theory. No fluff. No permission needed.
Whether you are a tradesperson with an entrepreneurial itch, a business owner navigating your next reinvention, or someone who has been told your path does not make sense, Built Without Permission is proof that the best businesses are rarely built by the book.
This is the show for the ones who break ground before they feel ready.

Foreign. You ever notice the people doing the most aren't asking for advice? This is built without permission. I'm Matthew Mac. Before I ever drew a blueprint or signed a business deal, I was folding suits, hauling snow, and washing glasses until 2am Then came architecture, tow trucks, and a built business from the ground up with my partner. No blueprint, no safety net, no approval. Just real stories, hard pivots, and what it actually takes to build something from nothing. Let's get to work. How do you know? Yeah. Yeah. I'm like, yeah, it's. Yeah, I met him at Cars and Coffee, man. He should have came to that event because I invented. Invited a lot of people. I was like, yeah, that's it, bro. Yeah. No, because even. Yeah, I was telling him too. I'm like, he missed out. Right? Like, I said that for him, it been, it been good for, for, you know, these things are great because you get to network with everyone, right? Ye. And then like, people that you haven't like, met in person, but spoke to, you know, over IG or over the phone, like for God knows how long. And then when you finally meet them face to face, you're like, oh, damn, what's going on? You know, it opens potential doors for work. Like Antonio, I called him for a job for a basement. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know if we're going to get it. The customer seems iffy, but, you know, at least he came out and it's, it's a possible. It was a lead, right? So. Yeah, 100%, bro. 100%. Yeah, no, that's, that's, that's, that's wicked, brother. So I see you're gonna, you're doing interviews for what? For trades people. I was like, interested. I'm like, you know what I want. Yeah, yeah. I'm growing. I work, though, to be honest. Like, I don't. Okay. Like, my, my area is kind of Durham, Clarington area. I don't. Yeah. Do Toronto as much. Okay. But listen, the, the sky's the limit, you know? Yeah. You know, you, you, you work in the area that, you know, but, you know, if the job presents itself somewhere a little bit further and it makes sense, hands down, you go for it. Right? Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. So I was like, you know what, man? It's good just to have that exposure. I'm marketing, I'm doing stuff, so I'm trying to get behind the camera More and 100. Oh, yeah, I know. And it's good because the con, like doing this more and more you get more familiar for yourself, more confident, you know, and then it's just it as we all level up together. Yeah, it just gets even tighter, you know, the group gets tighter. Like everyone will start knowing who, who's who and what's what and you know, you build good relationships. That way we bring each other up. Right. Like if I, yeah, if I ever need any equipment and stuff, I can call you and. Absolutely. Like, like, likewise. Like if you need someone needs renovations, you say, oh yeah, I have someone. That right. 100. And for us, bro, we go everywhere. Yeah, I know. I seen that all over the place. Well, anti do right now. It's good, bro, it's good. It's a, you know, it's, it's steady like everything else. Like we're, we're, we're busy, but it's up and down. Yeah, it's up and down. Right. Like we're, we're all feeling it. Yeah. It's all the same boat. Everybody's getting. Yeah, yeah. But you know what if, if you can survive. Exactly. You can't stop. Consistency is like the biggest thing, bro. You know? Yeah. Once we get over this hump though, I think like the trades is gonna boom big time because a lot of these fly by nights. They're dying. Of course. Absolutely. Absolutely, man. So all the people that are actually passionate, honest, do proper work and experienced. Yeah. And willing to give that 100 on jobs, it's. They're gonna, they're gonna blow up, bro. And yeah, honestly, I've been like, I've been in this for, since I was a young kid. Like my grandpa was a builder, my dad was a builder. And then now I've been doing it since I was 16, 14. Yeah. So, yeah, I'm very passionate about what I do, but yeah, that's awesome, man. And I would say. Yeah. So, yeah. So to get into it, this is, this is going to be about you. All right? So I'm going to throw you the curveball questions and you answer as we go, man. And you know, we can share the experiences on that if I have anything to relate to it, similar to that. Right. So. All right, so to get us started off, tell me what is, what is the moment that you yourself realize that I, I gotta do something for myself. Like I don't need permission to start. I just gotta start what I do. What was that breaking moment that you can remember? I'll tell you, this is kind of personal, but I'm just gonna say it. Okay, so. Okay, whatever you're comfortable with, bro. You know, basically. Yeah. Last. Last year, you know, we got. I was trying to work with my dad. My dad was going through a huge financial problems with his proper property, stuff like that. And then I tried to work with him. We didn't really get along. He was like, didn't want to grow. He kind of has old mentality. I'm Middle Eastern, so. Yeah. Anyway, long story short, this whole like, I've always wanted to do my own thing, but I was scared, like, take the leap. And then we, when we got into this house, we sold our custom house and Ajax, we were living here. And then my dad, we got this. My dad was defaulted on the mortgage. I didn't know. Yeah, right. Then he. Basically because he was borrowing money from me, this, that. And I said, yeah, sure, you know, I'd help him out. I had the odd side jobs and I was working for a company and then we joined together. It didn't work out. Then I got, I saw this in the mail that the like private lender was coming to take the house. So then I just said, I tried to work with my dad, it didn't work out. I said, screw it overnight, open my own incorporation. And then just went for it. And then I actually bought the house and closed in January. Yeah. Amazing. Yeah. Hit six figures last year. Had. That's awesome. I had 10, 10, 15 employees under me. Yeah, business was, was good. I was just, was working like day and night. Just day and night. Work, work, work. Like I just set a goal and I just went for it. And. Yeah. And honestly, that was, that was the game changer for me. Really. Yeah. And now when. So like that, that moment and that experience that you went through, right. And like how you. Let's say you set your goal right, like you said, like, this is my goal. Like, did it actually happen in the time period that you envisioned in that time period? Yeah, I was like, I worked out. Like, I, like I opened my business in November. Last November. Yeah, I had to close for November or November. November was. There was a non renewal in November. Okay. I got screwed over by a broker, but I got my money back and then I found my, the, the real, the actual good broker. That was. Yeah, that was honest and helped me. Yeah. But we extended the date from November to January. The lender, I'm friends with him. I, I talked to him, you know, he gives me work sometimes and we work together. So he said, you know, like, I see what you're doing. I want to help you. Like, I'll give you the extension. So. Yeah, it was like a miracle, to be honest. When I started the business, I was like, negative. No. Money broke. Like, it was crazy. Like, it was crazy. Like, honestly, man, like, everybody doubted me. Everyone says, you're crazy. You're not gonna do it. And then I was like, yeah, keep telling me I want to do it. Absolutely. 100%, man. And that's the. That's the fire, you know? Yeah, that's the fire. That's the motivation. Right? You know, there was. I was told this, and I loved it, and it resonates with me. And you just define that, which is that, you know, when people are telling you you're crazy, it means that you're doing something right. Right, Right. That's. That's the best part. Right? Like, that. That is the fire that motivates you to, like, keep going and, you know, don't listen to no one. Right. It's just the. How do you put it? Like, the. The noise. You cancel out the noise. You just focus on your signal. Focus on your signal, you know? Exactly, bro. No. Awesome. And you know what? These are the things that. Right. That obviously, you know, through the content, videos and all this stuff, no one ever sees, like, what truly goes behind the scenes. No one ever. Nobody. Nobody knows this. Like, friends and family. Like, I'll be honest. Like, even some. Some customers, like, I'm very close with. We're very. I have a really good relationship. They know this stuff. But, yeah, and they know. Briefly, I'm like, yeah, yeah, I bought the house and help my family, like my mom and whatever, but my parents are going through a separation. It's kind of like there's a lot backstory behind it, and my dad's going through something where he's not the same person he used to be, like. And it kind of sad because I wanted to do the business and incorporation with him, because I know, like, you know, there's. I would say, like, you take a bunch of sticks, you can't break them. You take one stick, it's easy to break. Easy to break. Yeah, 100%. So without a team, it's. It's hard. And for me, it's like I'm juggling everything, you know? Like, he. He trained me. He's really smart, but he wasn't good with his money. He wasn't good. He never doubled down in the business. He never reinvested as much as he should have. Yeah. It was always like, he kind of wanted to live life. Oh, boats this, that. So I'm doing the opposite. I'm just. Yeah. And then 100%, man. And then now I'm living my life like I have a nice, the truck, I have my dirt bike, I have my jet skis and stuff. But I'm, I'm stable, I'm financially stable. Of course, yeah. So. Of course, yeah. So I don't know, it's, it's a, it's a crazy roller coaster and we're still growing, you know, like, yeah, I'm looking to buy enclosed trailer now and wrap my truck and do all this. Awesome. So awesome, man. We're growing every day. Those are, those are the, the accountable, you know, things that you're putting on yourself. Like, you know when you're saying, like, oh, I'm gonna get this, you're gonna get that you're putting accountability on yourself, that you're, you're saying that it going to happen, right? And when you share it, this is the nice thing. So I used to think, by the way, I married into Middle Eastern, so my wife's Middle Eastern, so I know I'm in. I, you know, I'm, I'm part of Rocky now, apparently. So. Yeah. So my, my partner is also my brother in law, and so I learned a lot. So when you say Middle Eastern stuff, trust me, I, I got a whole, I got 12 years of experience of that right now. Okay. But you know what? I'll tell you something. It's like, it's very nice. The cult families, it's beautiful. No, I love passionate sometimes, you know, it gets crazy. But, oh, yeah, I always like, that's why I kind of got mad with my situation. My dad, because I told him, I'm like, you know, you gave up. You know what I'm saying? It doesn't matter what it is. I never gave up, you know, And I'm like, whatever. Anyway, that's, that's the difference. Yeah, no, that's the past, bro. That's the past. You gotta, you know, keep moving forward, right? I'm gonna have my, I'm gonna have my own family one day, you know, and, you know, and it is what it is. I'm still young, I'm 30, but I want to get married soon and we'll see how it goes. Yeah, just do it, man. Just plan and you envision it and it'll happen. So, like, even amongst like all the stuff that I'm going through, and I know that you can do it, I know lots of people can do it because, you know, not a lot of people know that. For myself, I'm married, I have three kids. Wow. You know, and I'm managing whatever I'm managing with my brother in law and he's pretty much the same count as well. And day in and day out, we're going morning and night, morning and night because you, you gotta, you gotta push. You can't stop. When you stop, you fall behind. Right. You gotta keep going. Right. And then. Yeah. When you connect yourself with great people like yourself and, and all the networks around it, these. Yeah. It's all motivators. Yeah. Right. Push you up. Right. Push you up. They lift you up, right? Yeah. So I, I'm gonna drop, drop a name here like Chris from Level Up Taping. You ever talk to that beautiful soul? He'll lift you up every day when he sends you a beautiful recording, you know, But I've seen you post. You should connect. I want to connect. I honestly need a taper to be honest, for certain jobs. Like when I do a full basement, it's easier for me. Like I do the taping and stuff, but like I'm stuck training guys how to do it and they don't know. And I know how to do like travel and use the hawk. And these are all professionally. Like these guys are doing it with a little five inch knife. I'm like, that's all right. Yeah. Big scene with a five inch knife. What are you doing? You know, and, and, and that's like, you know, talking about that is, is, you know, and this is also I, I try to remind myself too that no one reads your mind. Right. I can't read your mind. You can't read my mind. You know, same thing with the people that we work with on a day to day. So if it's not communicated, then the person, you may think that, oh, they should know this. Yeah. You know what I mean? But they don't. Yeah. So that's why communication actually goes so much further when everyone's on the same, same, you know, even how I treat, how I, how you treat your employees, it's huge. Like I treat everyone like family. I treat them really nice. I'm patient, I don't yell, I don't, you know, even in the worst situation, they could hear a huge up. And I say, hey, why did this happen? So I want to understand how to prevent it from happening again. Exactly. Like we want to learn solutions. So it's just how you and so many people work for me. And they're like, wow, like you know, people or older than me, younger than me, they're like, wow, like you. How do you know all this how do you have the patience? I'm like, I'm like, well, I've been doing this since I was 16, so it's not that I did this overnight. This confidence over time, I've up, I've yelled at people. I've, you know, had talks where the guy's like, I don't like it when you do that. It makes me feel belittled, makes me not want to work for you. So. And it's great that you like, you know, took that in of those past experiences and like you said, you work on it how to do better, Right? Yeah. A great thing I learned too is that when we ourselves better ourselves, it's better everyone else around us. Yes, for sure. And then you learn that for yourself too, which is, which is fantastic. Right. There's a lot of people that they don't, they don't learn from. Yeah. And they think it's everyone else's fault. Right. Yeah. But when you're able to figure it out that, hey, you know what, maybe step back and there's something that I'm not seeing clearly right now, that maybe it's me. Well, that's what I'm saying. I was blame myself. I'm like, you know what? Like, this is my business. It's my fault. It's my responsibility. So anything that happens, even in customers, like I have the guys that if they it up, I tell the customer stories is my fault. Yeah. Take care of it. It's. Don't worry about it. It'll be, yeah, I'll take care of it. Yeah. And, and you know, it's happened once to me that that's happened. Hey, there you go. See, it just takes one and you learn from it. Right. That's where it is. Right. You learn from your failure. Right. Well, I was juggling five basements at the same time in three months to finish. And yeah, I had hired an older gentleman that worked with me. We were foreman and supervisor. Okay. Another at another company. I was like, you know what? Like I worked with him. I was more like very strict on certain things. I'm like, no, it has to be perfect. You know, very ocd, very high on the quality. He was always like, ah, this is okay, and just did it. Right. Because yeah, they were doing investor properties for rentals and stuff. So it was like, you can get away with stuff. But for me, I'm used to working for a custom home like luxury like you needs to be. Your finish is like top notch. Yeah. Yeah. Even foundation, like everything like drywall. There's no gaps. Like, everything tight. Yeah. When you plaster, there's no cracks. Like, it's just crazy. So, yeah, he's like, you know, he worked with me. He's like, yeah, yeah. I want to help you get the house. I want to work with you. We're friends. Kind of ruined our friendship because, I'll be honest. Like, he walked off on a job, said it was done. There's caulking all over the floor. He even didn't paint around the handles properly or cut. There was like an inch and a half. Wow. The customer. The said to the customer, this is good. The customers are very nice customers. A doctor, Four million dollar house in Peterborough. North Peterborough. Yeah. Like, I think the guy's a surgeon, to be honest. Right. And I'm like, the guy was so nice. Yeah. Yeah, it's fine. After they left, I go to take a video the next day. So this was Wednesday. They finished. They called me, like, yep, Tony, it's done. Anton, it's all done. Like, are you sure? He's like, yeah, okay. I'm gonna go take a video. It was Wednesday. I was like, cool, I'll take it. Friday. Went Friday. As I'm going Friday. He's like, oh, the. I. I call, I'm like, hey, can I come take a picture? He's like, yeah, I'm not happy, actually. The. Because it's through insurance. Yeah. Restoration. Like, I was getting subbed out through them because I have connections with them. They're like, yeah, the prod. The project manager is coming. I'm very. I'm not happy with the work. I said, why didn't you call me? Yeah. Didn't even tell me. Right. He's like, yeah, they're coming to do an assessment out of the work. Because this is. This is outrageous. I'm like, I'm coming right now. I'll be in your house in five minutes. Yeah. So I'm coming to take a video. Yeah. For my Instagram to be like, oh, look what I. Look what I've done. Oh, my God. I step in, I take a video. Yeah. And I talk to the customer, and you can hear me in the video. I'm sorry. Don't worry. We'll take over. I bought the. The customer, he likes whiskey. I got him Blue Label 400 whiskey. Anton's renovation with the card and everything. I'm sorry. This. Dad wrapped it up, went in with my painter. We painted the whole basement. We're talking custom home theater room, washroom, gym. Like, massive. Like, I think it was like 3,4000 square feet, the basement. So it was like two days. We painted me in the paper touch ups. I did myself. I went air with dry decks. It was very little things. But yeah, yeah. How did they leave those finishes? I don't understand. Like, yeah, I had it plastered ready and primed like, yeah, like a baby's butt. Like you guys came in drips everywhere and I have to scream. It's more work. I've never in my life the way I've been trained. You do it right, you do it once, you walk away, you're happy. Exactly. You actually make money that way, right? You have to go back. That was a loss. It cost me those two days, two,$3,000. Yeah. Like, but the thing is, at the end of the day, you took ownership on it, right? It's your name, it's you. Right. I didn't care if I was losing. I said, I don't care if I. Exactly. I was like, this customer is going to get a job. But he didn't want to. I asked him, can you leave a review? He said no. After that experience, I'm sorry, I'm happy with the work. But he did let me price the job upstairs for painting. But yeah, he had somebody come, they undercoated. So I was like, okay, it's okay. Whatever it is. Oh, 100. 100. Pissed me off because I did want that review. So. Yeah, yeah, yeah, bro. You know what? After all that work. But you can like tell already like how you are, Anton. Is that it? More is going to come your way, bro. It's gonna just gravitate towards you. So, you know, like, I'm trying to be like more positive. I gym, of course, every day. But it's just like these slow times are killing me and I like, I, I, I'm trying to build the right team. I have this guy who's highly skilled. I can't even find the work that I need. Like I'm booked out for a week, two weeks. Like it's a, you know. And everyone I talk to, like my friend, he's huge. He's been in the business long time, like six, seven years. He's telling me, he's like, dude, this time of year, last year I was booked. Now I'm now, now I'm booked two weeks too. He was said. I said, you two weeks. I'm like, I'm not that bad. Yeah. So, you know, that's where it comes down to now, where it's, you know, that's where maybe you're, you have to think that, okay, you know, if. If that's the case currently, that, yeah, you do have to start looking further out, you know, like what I mean, out of marketing. Yeah, well, marketing. I just launched my marketing last week. Okay, awesome. So we're seeing how that goes. I'm with a really good. Like I kind of got screwed in the beginning. Like last year I signed with Linkio. I got onto a contract. This marketing company, they locked me in for three years. It's brutal. I spent $30,000 with them. Not one. Okay, wow. Not one lead. Like, I didn't make my money back, nothing. So, yeah, whatever. It is what it is. I learned now this company, no contract, they're offering like, like 200 more what they're offering and it's no contract. And we'll see how it goes. It's been two weeks. I had already a couple calls, but yeah, it goes. Yeah. Another thing on that, like for leads and stuff is like when you're like consistent on your content, that. Yeah, huge thing, like consistent. Like if you stay steady each and every day. Like, you know, even when you're doing one job, right? Like the one job. Let's say you have this week, do a bunch of videos raw. It doesn't have to be social. Like, you know, you get a professional photographer. What I do is a lot of posts. Well, no, I already did get a professional. I did. No saying what I'm saying, you don't need really that all the time. But when you know your raw. Your raw footage of you and what you're doing and that, that's what attracts a lot of people too. And you do like a bunch through your job, right? Let's say you do like 20 videos, 30 videos now you're good for a whole month of feeding content of your jobs. You know what I mean? You schedule, you line it up so that will show. But my problem is that my quantity is not a lot. Like how many jobs? Sometimes I wanted one job for a month. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, but how many videos do you think you can do in that one job? Right? Because you're doing multiple things, right? From. From, you know, let's just say drywall wall. And yeah, do short clips. They don't have to be long, 10, 15 seconds. You know, make like a bulk of videos on that one job within that month. You could do so many things of your guys, of you, you know, like so many things, dude, and you just bank that and then you just. You know what the problem is? I'm finding have the time. I Always want to say, I want to do the videos and then I'm working. Yeah. Like now, Now I fired. I had a guy that was working for me. I fired him because he's just not, he's not full time. He's not passionate. Yes. You know, like every time I come back to the job, I'm redoing his work. Oh, this is okay. I'm like, no, it's not. I told you this is not our expectation. I want you to have the expectation to say, no, this is not allowed. I'm going to rip this baseboard off. I'm going to cut it. Right. Even if there's a quarter inch gap. No. I'll redo it three times. I'll buy another piece. I don't give a fuck. But so do it right. It is the most important for me and it's so. In my industry, I think there's so many moving parts, it's harder. Like someone that specializes in just, in just roofing, like my friend roofer, he tells me, he's like, it's easier for him to find guys because he can find skilled roofer that only does roofing. Yeah, they're specialized in that one thing. You have multiple pieces. Yeah. We open the wall. Sometimes your electrical is. Plumbing's fucked. Then what are you going to do if you don't know plumbing, you don't electric or what are you going to do? You know what I mean? Stare at the wall. I'm going to call a plumber every time I have to do something behind the. What the. You know, this is not an addition. This is not a full like, you know, build. But then, then I'll get licensed people, right? Yeah, no, of course. And now when, when you're saying like just when you're saying about finding the time, like you want to do it, but you need to find the time. So. Yeah, my biggest thing that I've. I'm on this journey right now and I share this with a lot of people that I talk to is so there's that book that I've been reading by Dan Martell, Buy back your time. It is a fantastic read. Like fantastic. And I'll check it out. You should definitely check it out. Yeah. It. You just have to. The, the, the, the advice and the tools are there to teach each and every one of us how to really buy back our time in the day. And it works for. Doesn't matter what job you do, what your profession is, what your career is, but you just gotta apply it. That's it. It's just my problem though, is. Is now, like, I don't. I know. Like, I had good systems in place when I. When I started for the. To buy the house, like four months later, I was good. I was dropping material off, the guys were working. I was checking up this on each, like, go to each three jobs a day set up. Yeah. And I do it at night, so set for the next day. Then I go be ahead. And then I would take videos and then I would go like, it was perfect. Yeah. So I know once I have the right team. Yeah. It's going to be game over for me. It's just finding the right team because I know how to have systems. I learned from my dad about chain of work and systems. Of course. Yeah. But. And plus the biggest things, it's. Yeah, yeah. So. But the problem I'm finding is now because I'm going now. If you're doing everything, it's hard. Like, you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. You gotta go like, you don't want to lose that lead. They're waiting for a price. Yeah. Take too long, boom, you lost that lead. Someone else took that job. Yeah. So. Because I was busy doing something else. It's hard. It's. It's like. So I do. I do post on my story and then I'm posting. I'm not posting like three, four times a day. I'm posting maybe once a day. Yeah. But it's something to start. I think it's okay. Right. So when you can do at least two to three times a day is. Is good. Okay. I'll try and aim for that. Right? Yeah. And then what I would say your first step is like, what you're talking about right now is when you're finding your team, when you find that one person that can do what you're doing, you train them, that they have the setup, that they know how to set up the way you set up, you know, 10 o', clock, it's the next. Sorry, bro, it's 10 o'. Clock. I have the other meeting. Let me see if I can push her. No worries, brother.
I pushed. I want to see if I could push it for 10:30. Does that help? Sure. Yeah. It'll be enough time. I know. Because. Yeah, I'll be that time. Yeah. This happens all the time because. Yeah. Yeah. This is like when you meet certain. I think certain. There's business owners that start and they have no experience and they're starting something, which is great. But some people have unique stories and different. Of course you want to Share. You want to get that time right. Yeah, yeah. But it's just like, I don't know, you learn. Sometimes you connect with different business owners, and you're like, boom. You know, like, there's understanding, of course, rather than, like. Like, if you met me when I was 16, 18, or when I started doing side jobs, I would be less experienced. It would be a different conversation. 100. You know what I'm saying? Because you don't know what you know today, then. Yeah, right. He said, no problem. So we're good. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So, like, it's. Yeah. And exactly what you're saying is that you don't know what you know today back then. You know what you know now because of all the experiences you went through. But now. And it would be a different conversation. Yeah, but now I start talking to people that are experienced, too, and it, like, triggers my mind. Like, boom. I start picking up things. Okay, yeah, I understand that. I go through that, too, or. Oh, that's cool. You do that and take that technique. It's like, of course, absolutely. But when you have someone that's. That's not in that level, like, they're still like. Like. Like someone that's entering kind of the trades brand new, they're not gonna know to relate. No, you're gonna. Because you know. You know what it's like doing all these things. You're like, no, I just started. You know what I mean? So it's like, okay, oh, that's what I need to do. They still got to do it themselves, which is fine. There's not saying nothing's wrong with that. But. Yeah, it's just a different conversation. Different conversation, different level. Yeah, absolutely, man. 100. Right. Like, and then, like, going back, like, brushing up really quick on the back of that book, like, so when you read that book, there are parts in there that will help answer all these things that you're saying right now. It will have the answer. I'm telling you, it'll have the answer. Okay. What's it called again? Buy back your time. Your time. Yeah, yeah. Check it out. It's on Amazon. You can order it from there. That's what I did. It's like 30 bucks, something like that. Yeah. Blue in color. Is it a big book, though? No. You big on reading or what? You know what? Because of this and this trend that I'm going through right now, I'm becoming a part of. Yeah, exactly. So. And it's not about, like, you know, you have to finish the book right away. No, Like, I Read. You might pick up information from it. Yeah. 10, 15. 10, 15 pages a day. That's it. Nothing crazy. You don't have to read like the whole book and finish. Like, I gotta finish this thing right away and be done with it. No, it's that and then being consistent on it. Right. I have a problem sitting down. I'll tell you why. Because also when I read something. Yeah. I don't. It doesn't. I just say it and I'm not ready. Okay. I'm sort of like, I do it. Yeah. Our audiobook, then they can audiobook that. Book it. You can get on Amazon also. Audiobook. Yeah, you can download it. So I know this, but I want to start training myself to get better because I can't. There's not. I can read and everything. Right. Yeah, I get what you're saying. It's when. Just the way my pro brain processes. I'm ADHD and I'm very like, hands on. So when I do something, I will never forget it. But if I read it. Yeah. It's hard for me to remember or retain the information. Especially if I read a whole page. It's like. Yeah. You know, I might retain little pieces, but it's not gonna be like, oh, you asked me about that whole page. I'm gonna miss a lot of stuff. Even though I read it. Yeah. I can read it out loud and I'll still not retain it. So it's like. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I've always invested in ways that I've. Easy for me to learn. But. Yeah. Yeah. If there's an audiobook, that'd be awesome. Yeah. Yeah, no, it's. It's good. And I know it's going to be wrapping up shortly. The. The meeting. Oh, no, we're good. All right. Push it till
10:30. Yeah, I don't know. I know that. No, I mean on the actual zoom. Because once it's like done at like the. We have it for 40 minutes. So once it's done, it's just, you know, it cuts it. But it's all good, bro. Yeah. Yeah. So we'll get through. What is it here? All right. Just a few more questions. Right. Yeah. Yeah. So what advice would you say that you would give now to other people that are starting from scratch? Okay. Wanted to start their business starting from scratch and something that you're doing right. Or anything in general. Sure. My advice would be be. Be a hundred percent in and passionate about what you're gonna do. Yeah. And master it, learn, fail. Don't be afraid to fail and go for it. Because, yeah, I feel like my. I wasn't. If I was a hundred percent, like, I kind of was always tied to my dad's family business. If I was like, I was always, like, doing side jobs and stuff while working for companies too. When me and my dad would fight at work for a different company. Yeah. But I'd say, master, like to have a plan is the most. I always help people this. Without a plan, you're lost in life. Okay, have a plan first. You know, master the niche. Right. Once you find out your passion and you have a plan, it's easy. Everything else just falls into place because you know what you're doing. You're just working towards it. That's the best thing I could advise because some people are doing things just for the money, but they're not happy. Like, customers literally have told me, they're like, I can tell you're really passionate about what you do, because I'll be doing a cut sometimes, like, whoa. Like that thing's on point and then the customer comes alive. Like, yeah, wow. Like, you know, like. Like I came, I did this flat ceiling for a bedroom, and then I look at it, and there was a deficiency from the guy. He left. I could see a plaster patch, very minor. Was like, wow, such a good job. I love it. I said, no, we're gonna repaint it. I don't like it. She's like, why? Why? Why? No, it's okay. I don't want any more dust in the house. I don't want this. I was like. I was like, don't worry. Full containment plastic. Don't worry, it's all covered. Yeah, I don't care. I give a hunt. If you're paying for 100, you're gonna get 100. She's like, okay, whatever. I trust you. My house is your house. That's what every customer says. No problem. That's it, man. Awesome. No. And that's what makes you you. Right? Yeah. So that's what I tell people. When you're passionate, you know, that's the best advice. And then networking, get yourself out there. I think in business you have to be a people's person. If you're not, it's not going to work. If you don't know how to communicate, you don't know how to talk to people. It's not going to work. And that's what a lot of people do. These small businesses, they over text, they're. They're not communicating. Customers are left in the dark. Oh, yeah. Doesn't make sense. So anyway, that's for that question and. All right. I know we don't have much time. Yeah, it's all good, brother. So now. Yeah. And then tell me, so now I know that I started this. Built without permission. Right. And a lot of us, I feel that this is what really defines us now. What does that mean to you, personally? Built without permission? I. To me, just hearing that basically means that you're, you're not taking no for an answer. You know, you're built, you're doing something and, and you're, you're doing it regardless of what anyone says, you know, Built without permission. So if you decide to build this business, you're going to do it regardless of people say, hey, you're not going to do it. This, that, like it's for all the people that are, you know, like kind of wishing on your downfall. Yeah, there you go. Right? And that's what I got from that. But yeah, I actually love that because that's, that speaks to my story, man. That's what I'm saying. Right. And that's why I, you know, I, I really put this together where there's so many people that can relate to that, right? That like business owners, especially like people that are 100, like serious, like a lot of entrepreneurs can relate to something like that for sure. Absolutely. Right? Yeah, I know. That's awesome, man. That's awesome. No, Anton, I. This is, this is good. And don't worry, we'll. We'll be able to meet for sure for the next, the next runs. You know what, what I want to say too is also like in the future, if you ever have like any like masterminds, like where you guys just get together and friends, like even with Chris and stuff, I'll be so open to join with like minded people. Like I always join and go to dinners. We just talk business. Maybe we go out, play pool, hang out. You know, because you shoot the talking with business. Like we're. I'm always looking to grow and thinking about new ideas and of course talking about life and just, even just enjoying life. Like you meet a lot of good friends that I'm like, it's not just business anymore or, or you know, networking. It's. It's friendship. You know what I mean? So I'm always open to those things and, and I always throw it out there. Like I'm there, if there's something hit me up, I'll definitely show up. 100%. Dude, that. No, that's awesome. Yeah, likewise. Yeah, no, it's great to be able to meet up with people. And you're absolutely right. Where a lot of, like, my clients are. Are become my friends. Right. And talk on a daily basis or every so often. And it doesn't have to be about work. Like, I'll reach out to, like, let's say not yourself. Like, getting to know you, Anton. I'll just reach out to see how you're doing, bro. Like, see how's your day going, seeing what's going on, you know, what's new, what's happened, what's popping. So your name is what, Jay? Your name is. No, my name's. So my name's Matt. Yeah, so I'm Matt. Yeah. So J and J. J and J. We got it because of my son and my. My. My nephew. So Joseph and Jacob. Nice. Yeah. So that's. Okay. Okay, so we got. From the. There we go. Okay, that makes sense. So for some reason, I don't know why, I always thought your name was Jay. Yeah. So it. Listen, it's all good, man. I could be one of the Jays. It's all good. Yeah, but you're not the first to ask a lot of people. Yeah, I'm the father of Jay. Yeah, man. Yeah. So in. In what's it called? Because you know how all the different cultures, there's the different pronunciation of the names. So for you guys, I'm Mete, you know, Italian. Mateo, you know, French. Yeah. Like, even me. Like, my real name's Anton, but everyone goes. Calls me Tony from friends. Yeah. Short form. Yeah. Yeah. But in business wise, like, all my customers know me. Anton stuff. But some customers, like, so what is it Anton or Antonio or. Or is it Anthony? Anthony. Yeah. I got Anthony. Yeah. They're like. Yeah. How do you pronounce it? Is it Anton with an ear? Yeah. E. Silent. It's silent. Yeah. Literally. Yeah. And I just say Antone. Antone. Yeah. And Tone. Yeah, like the music note Tone. Yeah. Yeah. That's awesome, bro. That's awesome. No, I really do appreciate you having the time with me, man. And we'll definitely stay connected. Anyone renovations wise. I got you anyway. Yeah, you know, I might need. I might need to do some trenching in my property. Like, this house is like two acres. We live. I. Far. I live far east. I don't know if you know Bowmanville area. I know Bowmanville. Yeah. I'm northeast. Like, in the. In the farms, like, 15 minutes. That's good, man. It's better that way. I like being far away from everyone, bro. I'm Gonna have a huge bash here one day. But I'm gonna, I want to do the trenching because there's a huge marsh behind me. So I'm gonna need, I'm gonna need equipment, man. Floating, no problem. If I wanted a mini, if I wanted a mini excavator, like a mini. Sorry, a mini backhoe to dig the trench and move stumps. Like I have like 50 stumps here to move. So backo we don't have like we used to have backers, we don't have anymore. So it'd just be like an excavator or skid steer or things like that if you need the right tools. Like we have attachments and also we can run through that. Like all the things that we have. No, but like the mini excavator. Yeah, the mini excavator. Yeah, we have the mini excavators. Yeah, we got like from 1 ton up to 8 ton. Whatever size suits your needs. So. What, what, how much would something like that cost? If I want to rent for let's say a week. For a week? Can't do that on air, bro. It's gonna be on the side, man. Okay. Posted. Yeah, of course it's gonna be posted, bro. Oh, I thought this was just a meeting. Yeah, no, no, this is gonna be posted, my brother. Okay. But I'll have certain things edited and fine tuned. I'll even mention. Can you send it, can you send me the an Edit version 100. 100. And then if you want, let's say why don't we retake this. I didn't know this was posted. I was just gonna be posted, bro. No man, whatever. Yeah, yeah, you leave it raw. So now like if there's. Let's say, you know the part I know you were mentioning about your, your pops and things like that. If you want that kind of cut out, like, let me know. It's up to you. Whatever you feel, bro. If you're waiting for permission, you're already behind. The life you're building starts with the decisions you make today. So stop thinking and start moving.
