You ever notice the people doing the most aren't asking for advice? This is Built Without Permission. I'm Matthew Mac. Before I ever drew a blueprint or signed a business deal, I was folding suits, hauling snow, and washing glasses until 2 a.m. Then came architecture, tow trucks, and a built business from the ground up with my partner. No blueprint, no safety net, no approval. Just real stories, hard pivots, and what it actually takes to build something from nothing. Let's get to work. I've never had just one job, not once, not in high school, not in college, not when I was married with a career, not ever. While most people were picking a lane, I was working every lane at the same time. And somewhere in that chaos between the mower and the midnight toll calls and the drafting table, I figured out how to build something real. Nobody handed it to me. Nobody had to. This is built without permission. And if you've ever built something while everyone else was still thinking about it, you're in the right place. My name is Matthew Mack. Here's how I actually got here. I've been working since before most people figure out what they want to do with their lives. Not one job at a time, but two and three at a once. Stacking experience the way other people stack excuses. I put myself through school, worked through every season and never waited for the right moment because the right moment was always right now. When I landed my architecture career and started a family, I didn't slow down. I added a tow truck to the equation, bought my own rig, and ran both careers for 10 years straight. Seven years into that grind, I saw the opening. And my brother-in-law, Dave, and business partner now, we built J&J Equipment Rental from the ground up. Five years in, I haven't looked back once, because everything I am as a business owner was built in the hours most people were sleeping. Most business content is made by people who went from school to startup to success. Clean lines. Neat story. Great for a TED talk. That's not my story. And I'm guessing it's not yours either. I've mowed lawns at 6am. I've towed cars at 2am. I've sat at an architecture desk all day and then climbed up into a truck all night. And on the side of all that, I built a company. Not because someone told me. Because I couldn't stop myself. This show exists for people like that. For the trades person working doubles and wondering if they could be running their own shop. For the person juggling two jobs who has an idea they can't shake. For anyone who's been told their path is too messy, too scattered, too much. Messy is where the real work happens. Every episode is going to give you something you can actually use. We're going to talk about the decisions nobody prepares you for. The cost of betting on yourself, in money, in sleep, in relationships. The strategies that we figured out out at midnight in a tow truck, not in a boardroom. Coming up, how to scale when you have no roadmap. The pivot from two careers into one company and what it actually felt like from the inside. The unconventional moves that looked insane and turned out to be right. And conversations with people who built something real the hard way. If that's what you've been looking for, hit subscribe right now. New episodes are coming, and you don't want to be three behind when things are starting to get interesting. Here's the thing I want you to carry out of this first episode. I didn't start the equipment rental business when the timing was perfect. There was no perfect timing. I started it while I was already running two careers, exhausted, stretched, probably a little crazy, and that's exactly when it needed to happen. You don't need permission to start building. You don't need everything lined up. You don't need the right title or the right resume or the right moment. What you need is to start with whatever you have right where you are. The failures along the way, there's no detours. They're the blueprint. Every job I ever worked, every late night, every hard call, it all compounded. Nothing was wasted. So here's your move this week. Whatever you've been putting off, start it. Messy, uncertain, imperfect, start it. If you're a tradesperson, a business owner, someone working two jobs and dreaming of a third option, this show is built for you. Subscribe wherever you listen. Share with someone who's been grinding and needs to hear this. And if it hits, leave a review. That's how we grow this without a marketing department. Next episode, I'm taking you back to the moment I first stepped into that tow truck business. The real story of how a company became the doorway to everything I've built since. You don't want to miss it. I'm Matthew Mac, and this is Built Without Permission. No blueprint. No approval. No excuses. If you're waiting for permission, you're already behind. The life you're building starts with the decisions you make today. So stop thinking and start moving. Subscribe, share this with someone still thinking about it, and start building something of your own. No blueprint, no approval, no excuses. I'm
